Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother Case Study

During this section, we see Lulu growing more and more distant from her mother. I believe that she is doing this as a way of rebellion against her mother and in order to protect herself from being hurt. I also don’t believe that Amy should change her aggressive parenting styles in order to bring Lulu back to her. If they way she has raised them worked so well for all this time, she shouldn’t change her whole style, just some aspects of it. One of the ways that Amy should change her parenting style comes from textual evidence. In Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, Amy states, “I refuse to cheat Sophia out of praise she deserves, just to ‘protect Lulu’s feelings’” (Chua 187). Here, Amy is explaining how she will not treat her two daughters equally and will continue to praise Sophia while comparing Lulu to her and putting her down. While this may seem to be the best option to give a child the drive to do better at times, it will not always be that way. I believe that this is one of the ways that Amy should change her style for parenting. She should consider starting to treat them equally in order to help Lulu entrust Amy …show more content…
When I was younger, my mother was always very protective of me when we went into large cities. One time, she even kept me right next to her as we walked through Washington, D.C. in order to keep an eye on me and made sure I was not getting myself into trouble. But when we went to New York City this year, she just told me to check in with her from time to time so that she can check in. What my mom was doing here was being protective and giving me room to grow, something that Amy should use in her parenting style. She should allow Lulu to go to a sleepover, as long as she checks in with Amy from time to time. This will allow Lulu some of that freedom that she may be yearning for, but also giving Amy that feeling of protecting her

For my fieldwork I interned a woman named Jill Spivack, who is a LCSW, a licensed psychotherapist and pediatric sleep consultant. She co-founded the company Sleepy Planet Parenting, in Los Angeles, which was created to help parents with the early stages of child-hood development in her private practice or in group therapy sessions. Before going into this I had no idea how hard it was to be a parent. Growing up my parents have always seemed like they had everything under control. I looked at them as perfect and people who could do no wrong, especially my mom.…

Following the Battle of the Somme, Faulks describes the ‘crippled sleepers’ rising from the ground, saying that it resembled a ‘resurrection in a cemetery’ ; a simile which represents the fact that the men are now the living dead; their old lives have been stolen from them. Faulks anthropomorphises the soil, saying that the men ‘teemed up from the reluctant earth’ alluding that even nature has turned against the men. The characters Stephen and Weir discuss the atrocities which have occurred during the Battle and Weir becomes hysterical, repeatedly asking what the men have done. Weir says ‘we’ll never get back to how it was before’ after considering the scale of the battle. The men believe that it is impossible to return to their old lives.…

In my readings of The Sorrow of War, I found myself engrossed in Bao Ninh’s images he created in his book about Kien. As Kien began his story, I caught myself getting lost amongst his constant shifts in storytelling. About a third of the way into the novel, I finally was picking up on his writing style. As I learned what it was like to be a Vietcong soldier and how the American soldiers treated them, it saddened me and opened my eyes widely. It was awakening to hear the horrific actions of American soldiers even executed in groups of American soldiers and not the actions of a single soldier.…

Reframing is used to present an alternative possible explanation of an experience. This technique seeks to help the client to create a positive interpretation to negative behaviours (Collins, Jordan & Coleman, 2013). During the 1970s, when transgender women were publishing their personal narratives, cultural anthropologist Esther Newton published her seminal work, Mother Camp: Female Impersonators in America. Credited as one of the first interdisciplinary works to focus on queer culture, Mother Camp examines female impersonators in the Midwest by breaking down the many forms of cross-dressing such as those who did so as a living (labor), those who did so strictly for sex, and those who did so for their own fulfillment. Cross-dressing, drag, or female impersonation is a subculture of the gay community. Within this subculture, Newton underscores several themes relating to sexual orientation, gender, and camp. The notion of camp is communicated though gay…

I agree that rationality and gentleness are the keys to raising a good child. In the case of Shila, she was not rational and she was too gentle. Shila thought it was rational to give half of her salary to charity and donate a large portion of her clothes. While it is proper to donate to charity, the amount of money and clothing that Shila was donating was irrational because she was limiting the amount of items and money she had for herself. While being gentle is a great quality to have when it comes to dealing with others, as exemplified with Shila, if it is done too much it can cause great harm.…
