Ballet Experience Analysis

Growing up, I took ballet once or twice a week. I had an instructor at my old studio who really gave me my ballet foundation when I was young. I finally realized how important ballet was when I was in eighth grade or about freshman year of high school. However, I had no classes available for me to take besides twice a week with the same instructor. When I moved studios senior year of high school, I started taking ballet 3-4 times per week with an instructor that really educated, pushed, and inspired me. I went to a studio that was based a lot on competition, so it was important for me to take classes in all genres. Not to say that ballet was not important, I just was generally pushed in different directions besides it. I have really enjoyed …show more content…
I think I could also improve by watching my fellow classmates and seeing how they transition through the steps as well. It also comes from knowing the combination well, too. If I feel confident in the combination I can focus on the transitions rather than what I am doing. This goes hand in hand with another goal of mine, to be able to understand and pick up combinations faster. Sometimes in class, I am doing unfamiliar exercises and steps so it is difficult for me to truly understand what I am doing. Then doing the exercise becomes an attempt to copy, rather than perfect the steps on my own. I think that my goals are very attainable if I truly set my mind to them. I have tons of opportunities to work on my ballet technique during the week, which is very exciting. I need to constantly remember my goals, listen to the knowledge that my instructors pass onto me, and push myself every single day. Lastly, in order for my professors to help me with my goals, I think that I just desire to be corrected. Having instructors that constantly adjust your arms, back, turn out, and give advice on technique helps me improve much

As I stated in my midterm, setting goals for myself only allow me to become a stronger dancer. This semester in Ballet II, I personally believe that I have grown tremendously as a dancer in ballet. With this being my first semester in Ballet II, I had a few ups and downs throughout the class. With this being the case, I set three different goals for myself so that I could focus on fully reaching my potential the areas. These goals included: fully executing my petite battements and completing a double left pirouette.…

Adorned with a tutu and pink carousel umbrella, I stood in the wings like a statue waiting for my music to play. I was five years old, my tape was lost in the mix, and I was terrified. That day I walked out onto the stage clenching my umbrella for dear life and completed my first ballet performance without a single hiccup. The show went on. And on for fourteen more years until finally abandoning the barre for academics in pursuit of another field highly focused on the body; medicine.…

From my last year of study, there has not been much that has changed from my perception of ballet. So far, I noticed that I made progress in improving my technique as well as having a clearer focus while learning the combinations in class. I want to improve in whatever way possible to make sure that I can keep on top of my technique, especially since I look forward to striving forward through this semester as a continuation of last semester. On the first day back of the new semester, I already knew that I wanted to break some of the bad habits that I had and wanted to find any way possible to make the goals a primary focus. Even though I have my strengths and weaknesses, I want to further myself this semester to grow as a dancer by breaking some old habits that are holding me back.…

When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…
