Balistes capriscus is a cartilaginous teleost of the Balistidae family. A dull grey, this species of triggerfish is relatively unattractive compared its brightly coloured relatives; the Queen triggerfish and the Bluespotted triggerfish. Like other reef fish they are highly compressed with a bright white line extending from its mouth to the anal fin, dividing the darker gray dorsal side and the light gray ventral side (Hauter & Hauter, 2015). The darker patterning on the lateral side of their body can be speckled, bars, or hardly visible (Hauter & Hauter, 2015).
