Background/ Context:
Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1606. Macbeth was first performed on stage in April of 1611 in the Globe Theater. The play is set mainly in Scotland and was wrote during the reign of James I.
Characters Analysis: Macbeth: The main character of this play. He is roughly 6’ and skinny as a rail. Macbeth faces several hardships in this play. He learns that his actions not only affect him, but also the lives of others. He can not resist his other “dark side” because he has his mind and everyone behind him to tell him to do the bad actions. Lady Macbeth has the murder of Macduff’s family on her mind and troubles with sleeping. Macduff’s troops secretly cut down the Birnam wood to use as camouflage against Macbeth’s troops and Macduff learns that Macbeth has his troop assembled. Macbeth relies on his three apparitions and feels confident in this battle and learns that his wife is dead. Macbeth gives up and claims defeat but still has his second apparition in mind so he tries to kill Macduff. Macduff and Macbeth fight but Macduff is ultimately the winner and cuts Macbeth’s head off and takes it to Malcolm, the next in line for the
