During this stage, infants begin to learn skills of autonomy, empathy, and emotional attunement to others. Also, they start to develop body coordination and motor skills. Infants study talk, play, walk, and to feed themselves as well. They gradually know how to overcome fears of new situations and people, to know them as separate, and they also learn how to develop empathy for others.
The tasks for parents or other caretakers are to meet babies’ needs consistently so that babies can develop trust in others and a sense of security.
