BVAA Scholarship

Decent Essays
It is with great honor that I thank this organization for allowing me to be one of the recipients of the BVAA Scholarship. Thanks to your generous support, part of the burden in affording college has been lifted.

As I head off this fall to the University of Texas at Austin as a freshman, I certainly have many goals in sight. As a business major, I hope to dive into my studies in order to learn about the logistics of entrepreneurship, as well develop the skills that may be applied to future projects I work on, as well as careers I undertake. Additionally, I plan to pay it forward by volunteering with youth organizations. I want to motivate those individuals to continue to reach toward success, despite the obstacles that exist in their path.

There are various reasons as to why I’m deserving of the Etna-Dixmont School Scholarship. The most prevalent reason is my family history and connection with the town of Dixmont. My father and my grandparents moved to from Massachusetts to Dixmont, Maine when he was in second grade. My grandfather bought a house on Route 9 in Dixmont, and some other land in addition to that. The Dixmont Corner Church was built in 1835, and had an active one room school house next to it that was built in 1808.…

One of the first task that I undertook as the president of the UCLA’s Mortar Board Honor Society was to reinstate our chapter’s academic scholarship program. The large scope of the project required me to exercise fiscal responsibility and employ innovative methods to reach our fundraising goal of 1000 dollars. While keeping up with my academic and research responsibilities, I applied for multiple grants to fund our community service projects. By delegating tasks such as sponsor recruitment to specific members, I ensured that everyone felt an integral part of this project. Thanks to grant fundings and rigorous outreach, we actually surpassed our fundraising goal.…

The date “August 8” marked my transition to adulthood. This day shifted my entire life in a direction I never could have imagined. My entire high school plans were destroyed and my lifestyle needed to be completely readjusted. My father was in the hospital after feeling sick at Menards.…

On the morning of July 28, 2012, I found myself standing in the middle of Crown Point International Airport holding a plane ticket to Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. My knees were weak and my eyes were so blurred that I couldn’t read the basic information that was on the plane ticket. The only thing I could have recognized was the color of it, which appeared to be a faded green in my eyes. For a short moment my mind was completely blank, then suddenly the thoughts and memories of the time being spent in Canaan, Tobago came rushing into me like ferocious waves of a traumatized ocean.…
