Ultimately, he does put forth an effort to complete tasks when he realizes I will not allow him to not participate. Matt will cry if his friends do not play with him. We often talk through problems that can enable him to think things through and express his feelings. Counting backwards from 5 usually gets his attention and he corrects his behavior if need be. He likes to read Sponge Bob and monster books. Also, research by Piaget states that Matt should be at the Concrete Operational Stage (7 to 11 years of age). Conclusion
In conclusion, Asperger Syndrome disorder can be a challenge to the child who has it and to their teachers and families. One study, suggests we cannot expect the child/student to do things the same way we do them. It will only cause frustration and the child can become anxious. A tip is to not expect, but to simply meet the student where he or she is. Additionally, I often provide positive support to help build his confidence which can go a long way. I enjoy working with the kids in which I am assigned and it is rewarding
