The word “hero” has become highly overused. Athletes, actors, musicians, and even reality TV stars are considered modern heros. The qualification of a hero has evolved from sacrifice and selflessness, to good-looks and the amount of points scored in a game. The actual definition of the word “hero” has not physically changed in the dictionary, however the meaning and qualification behind the famous word has been diluted and downgraded. A genuine hero qualifies someone who inhabits the traits of sacrifice, perseverance, selflessness, and optimism.

Heros can easily exist as ordinary people like Lauren Prezioso. She shows the world that everyday people can perform heroic acts while preserving obstacles. Prezioso, relaxing with her family on the beach in Coffs Harbour Creek Australia, suddenly hears cries of help coming from a panicking mother. Prezioso looks up to see the mother’s young boys drowning, while being swept out to sea. As Prezioso watches the children yank under the rough ocean waves, she waits, hoping beach bystanders will do something. Prezioso realizes that nobody willing to help is present, so she instantaneously dives into the water herself, despite being eight months pregnant. She reaches the two boys and holds them up above the water. With full hands and a pregnant stomach weighing her down, Prezioso cannot swim to safety. The three helpless swimmers are about to go under, until another ordinary person becomes a hero. The heroic man pulls all three of the suffering swimmers to safety. Prezioso claims that this unknown man is the true hero. Unlike your typical reality tv star, nothing will come in the way of a true hero who takes initiative when searching for a way to help
