Your life will change when you deploy to a third world country to support and defend the United States of America. Each Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Marine and their families will experience this change in their own way. For many service members, it will give them some insight as to how other people in that country live their daily lives; they may become more humble and appreciate what they have a lot more. They will value the time that they have with their families after being gone for so long. However, for a cocky, arrogant young man I found a new respect for life and a greater understanding as to why you should live it each day to the fullest.…
On June 8, 2004 I became an active duty soldier. I was following a tradition set down to me by my grandfather who served as an enlisted soldier in WWII, then my father, and my uncles before me. Becoming an enlisted soldier made me very proud and allowed be to continue a heritage that someday I hope my son will follow. The Army taught me many great things including the value of teamwork, leadership, and self-discipline. I was deployed with the 1/17th Cav to Iraq in 2005.…
In 2004, six years after graduating High School, I knew I needed to do more with my life than I was, so I joined the Air Force. This is a very basic way to describe it. I realized I was capable of more in my life; I recognized that I couldn’t get there working where I was; I identified that the military had careers that interested me, and I narrowed the jobs down to the Air Force. This is not to say I did it all for only that reason. I also had considered the military before, as my father and most of his brothers had served in the military at some point.…

I come from a small community plagued with poverty and low opportunities. We have the second highest unemployment rate in the United States, which leads people to resort to working in the fields. As I look back on my writing career to this point in my life I have usually had a purpose to write. Very rarely did I just write for fun, most of my works were required. In order to create an essay that has some meaning behind it one must first become at the very least interested in the topic.…
My journey starts in Rwanda, a small country in East Africa. It started after I excelled in the national examination, an exam for high school students pursuing college admission, and got rewarded a scholarship to study college in the US. The experience I gained throughout my scholarship period, research, and background inspired me to pursue graduate studies. This goal has been an important reason for both my education and life pathways.…
