Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun
Concepts that have been promoted in Wess Roberts book, Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun, have management, leadership, and organizational concepts that are still valid in 2016. Even though the book was based upon a historical figure, Attila, in the mid-1970’s the concepts discussed are found in leadership groups all across America. People can find these concepts in a broad spectrum of leadership in our current society that all these concepts directly relate to from sports, general management, and government. Sports has become a big part of America today. It has correlated with developing leadership traits, skills, and experiences. In an article, Do Sports Help Improve Leadership Skills by Tara Duggan states, “Playing and coaching sports activities, such as baseball, football, running, bicycling and swimming, helps participants learn to treat other competitors with respect, identify strengths and weaknesses, develop winning strategies and manage time effectively. Participating in sports helps people develop confidence and make quick decisions necessary to succeed in leadership roles of all types.” Developing winning strategies, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and management are all concepts that Roberts tries to implement in his book.

A key argument that Robert pushes is the concept of learning from failures and never giving up. While the book uses Attila’s failures to persuade the audience of this concept, individuals can commonly see this trait in sports. Robert states, “Huns learn less from success than they do from failure” 104. An example, is Payton Manning, a famous Broncos quarterback lost their last win to the superbowl.
