They weather down their players’ passion by humiliating and disrespecting them. Never do they offer their players positive reinforcement; they only yell the negative. These harmful actions soon lead to an athlete questioning if they are good enough. After persistent abuse is inflicted on an athlete, they gain a negative mindset. Blindly, their thoughts change direction, leading them down an unhealthy path. This happens because they begin to accept the words of their damaging coach as their own. If their coach has told them, “You are too slow to guard her”, or “Don’t dribble the ball. You aren’t good enough to dribble”, the athlete begins to believe they are incapable.
