For my informational interview assignment, I interviewed Mandi Palmer, RN. Mandi is the Nurse Manager at Palmetto Health Richland Springs. As Nurse Manager, she explained that it is her responsibility for maintaining and elevating the practice of her nurses and patient support techs. Additionally, she is responsible for the safety of the unit and making sure her staff is competent to perform their duties. She is also responsible for maintaining the environment by holding Environmental Services accountable for their actions. She then went on to explain that the list goes on and on including audits, floor work, and much more. Basically, she stated that she has to be a jack-of-all-trades and pick up where help is needed. I then asked her about her educational background, she explained that she got her BSN in 2011 and her Masters of Science in …show more content…
Sadly, she answered no! She explained especially not here in South Carolina, as there is still a lot of stigma surrounding mental health, which prevents people from seeking help. She did say that maybe the acute care program would see a slight increase in admissions because the program is voluntary and most of the patients are self-motivated.
My question from Chapter seven was, “What are some ways you as a manager, could lower cost here at Richland Springs? How do you think that would impact the quality of care”? Mandi responded very passionately to this question, as she thinks Richland Springs internal ordering system needs to be revamped. She stated that we have too much paper but not enough needles, in other words, the supplies ordered is not corresponding to our needs, which generates waste and lost revenue. Mandi stated that with a revamped system, we could better allocate the resources, which would overall increase the quality of
