Assignment 2: Educating The New Patient Education

Patient education is a critical part of keeping patients engaged in their care as well as giving them the knowledge they need to manage their current problem. Although the staff and providers offer education to the patients, they do not have a clear understanding of the different ways this education can be provided in order to meet the patient’s needs.
Patient education has evolved over the years in terms of how and when this material is utilized. In order to better serve and educate the pregnant patient’s educational information needs to be offered in several different ways. This patient has the choice as to how or when they want to receive this information. Changing how the patients receive the needed education by utilizing social media, apps, online, text messaging, group visits, and books. Education that is provided using the online website will be specific to this clinic and will contain a more personalized feel as well as offering links to outside websites that have been approved by the providers in the clinic. By making this change, the information will be more meaningful to the patients and will create a better learning environment.

I will also be the person who will be responsible for educating the staff and providers on the new patient education information process. Being the lead for this process change it will be crucial to get the key stakeholders gathered. Involving the providers in the clinic, the staff, leadership, finance, IT, and patients will be pivotal in moving this project forward and getting the buy-in needed to make this a successful implementation. This group of stakeholders will be the ones to lead this change within the OB/GYN
