- Description of the assessment results. o Sydney did a good job on the upper middle school word list getting almost all correct. She also did a very good job reading the “Biddy Mason” story, having only a few errors. However, Sydney did struggle with retelling the story and listing detail that occurred in the story. She also struggled giving explicit answer at the end of the assessment.
- Interpretation o Sydney did very well on the upper middle school word list. She automatically identified 11 out of 20 words and identified 5 out of 20 words. The activity pairing nonfiction and fiction text is a comprehension building skill that create units in which the reader reads aloud a nonfiction text to provide background information about a topic that appears in a story or novel that students will read. The students will discuss how authors of fiction use facts to shape their story. When students acquire the background knowledge about a topic discussed in a story, they may become more motived to read the story. While reading both fiction and informational books, teacher should use the following process during, before, and after reading strategies. Before reading: identify the purpose for reading; is it fiction or nonfiction? review the title, author, and illustrator and decide if they have read similar books or books or the same author or illustrator., predict what the book may be about, describe any key vocabulary words that are needed to understand the text. During Reading: use a consistent strategy to discuss the text until students become proficient in using it., use open-ended questions., make connections., make inferences based on the background knowledge of students., self-monitor by going back or slowing don when comprehension breaks down., look for new vocabulary words and discuss them. After Reading: Retell the main points, and
