Health and safety risks
When carrying out and performing computer maintenance there are many health and safety risks that are involved with different steps of the process. There are many ways that the technician or practitioner can overcome these risks and minimise the health and safety effects on all users. The safety equipment available helps reduce the risks to the user and technician performing the maintenance.
Electrocution – This risk is a frequent health and safety issue that all technicians have to deal with when carrying out computer maintenance. Before any maintenance is performed on a computer or any price of electrical equipment, the device itself must be completely turned off with no power going to it. If the computer was left on whilst the technician was performing work on it, then there would be a very high chance of them being electrocuted. The symptoms of being electrocuted could potentially be severe. After an electrical shock the technician could experience tingling, numbness, burns or even becoming unconscious depending on the severity of the electrocution.

Fire extinguishers can be used to put out fires, but different fires require different types of extinguishers. Therefore when dealing with an electrical fire the correct extinguisher must be used, also training on how to use the firefighting equipment must be provided for the technicians and practitioners, as they must know how to use the equipment properly. Training on how to prevent fires can also significantly help reduce the risks of fire as people will then know how to minimise those
