Assault Weapons Persuasive Speech

Decent Essays
America is caught up in an important war and the problem is that very few people realize this fact. The war in which I am referring is whether or not to ban assault weapons. Now I’m not proposing a complete ban on all guns as that would be a violation of the 2nd Amendment which we will examine later. However, as we will see in the examples highlighted below, assault weapons are not normal guns and consequently I believe that they must be banned from civilian use.
What are the problems? Let’s explore this further. I will demonstrate for you the lethality of assault weapons and a few of the common misuses of the weapon. We will discuss the availability of the weapon, shooting spree killings, home defense, and use of the weapons for hunting.

In recent days, there has been many problems come to surface over gun control. From Sandy Hook, Columbine, Orlando and Colorado, many people feel we need to do something about these shootings. Some believe that that the way to solve this is to ban firearms altogether, and others feel we should arm every citizen. I think that a happy middle would be a great way to start. The firearm ban from 1994 had little to no noticeable effect because it left normal law abiding citizens unable to arm themselves and criminals (surprisingly) still didn't heed the law.…

There are many points in favor of the Assault Weapon Ban. The Second Amendment’s purpose is not to give every American a completely free rein on guns, there should be limitations. Continuing with this thought, some laws on guns are older than the Second Amendment itself; therefore new gun laws could improve our society. (Pro Con , 2016) Assault Weapons are not important for the use of sports or self defense. (Kellams, 2012)…

Firearms on Campuses Should be allowed Have you ever wondered why so many school shootings happen? Have you ever wondered why nobody has ever really defended themselves from an attack? Well how are you supposed to defend yourself from somebody who has a gun and you are just there defenceless. I think that a way to protect yourself and your students is by allowing teachers and administrators to have firearms on campuses. The firearms on campus are an intimidation factor to anybody who has the idea to do things such as shooting up a school.…

Hey all I know I'm a little late but if you'll allow me, I'd like to chime in for just a sec. First, I'd like to comment about the loophole. Bill Troxelll, I'm not sure exactly which state you live in but if you don't live in California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon and Rhode Island then you can LEGALLY sell your privately owned firearm to another private citizen WITHOUT needing that person to pass a background check. Of course, it should be noted that if that person is a felon and you know that, you'd be guilty of committing a crime known as a "straw purchase" (a felony).…

The dead tell better stories then the living. For instance, if anyone had survived from inside the WTC, perhaps everyone would know that it wasn’t a controlled demolition. Perhaps then, in september of every year, the victims families wouldn’t have to endure the constant disrespect of their loved ones deaths by tin foil wearing conspiracy theorists. The shooting of john Lennon and Ronald Regan were not part of any mass shootings. And yes, I’m sure Jodie Foster wished Hinkleys motives never came out.…

Assault weapons were made in America for a reason so they should be allowed in America and should be legal. America is full of American citizens who have the right to bear arms and an assault weapon is a part of “arms” due to the fact is has a trigger and it shoots a bullet. It is unconstitutional to ban something that our four-fathers have given us the right to own. The second amendment was made a very long time ago when assault weapons werent made but yet today we still have that right and every gun is a part of the word “arms” including assault weapons. Assault weapons being banned would only increase crime because people would buy them illegally.…

The debates regarding restrictions on the availability of assault type weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines is not important to me in that I have no need or interest in weapons which in my opinion are for military purposes only. I do however support these particular restrictions mainly due to my fear that I could become a victim to the senseless violence experienced in our nation from individuals who have taken assault type weapons and inflected mass killings as we have seen in the shooting at _____ and _____. Not a day passes as I walk around our campus that the thought of a tragedy such as these could happen on our campus and perhaps even to…

On an average day in the United States 93 americans are killed by gun violence. There are also 1000’s of cases that involve a child being injured or killed by a stray bullet every year. Does this mean that guns are dangerous or does it mean we are using guns for the wrong intention? There are many reasons people use guns but like everything else some people use it for good and some for evil. Since the United States can't take away all of our guns I feel there should be some guns you should be able to purchase at your local store for self-defense or hunting and there are also some guns in which you should go through heavy background checks to be able to purchase.…

In recent years, a lot of debate had been going on about the laws pertaining to firearms. Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
