Introduction: Upon entering a farmer’s market, one might assume that consumers are eager to hand over their money to anyone with the product or service that they are in search of. Buyers, however, have come to prove that they can be very picky and know exactly what they want and how they want it. Booths of all sorts are located directly next to their competitors, each striving to catch the buyer’s interest and suede them into purchasing their product. Organic fruit producers are increasing in rates, as are their consumers. People not only want fruit, but products that they can trust to have been produced in all natural ways. The word organic is not, however, interchangeable with the word

Organic means that the product is made of all natural ingredients, with zero exceptions. An easy way to tell if a product is completely organic is by checking its label. An online article written by the Mayo Clinic Staff titled “Organic Foods: Are they safer? More nutritious?” provides a breakdown of the organic labelling process; “Products that are completely organic — such as fruits, vegetables, eggs or other single-ingredient foods — are labeled 100 percent organic and can carry the USDA seal… Products that contain at least 70 percent organic ingredients may say "made with organic ingredients" on the label, but may not use the seal. Foods containing less than 70 percent organic ingredients can't use the seal or the word "organic" on their product labels. They can include the organic items in their ingredient list, however.” So, as the world is able to distinguish between organic and conventionally yielded produce, one might begin to question the methods and effects of organic farming. Methods of organic farming range from beneficial insects to traps and barriers. Even though most may consider organic farming as a healthy alternative from conventional farming practices, new …show more content…
Teruo Higa’s research is accurate and one might even feel the need to support his views as he makes a very strong argument, but before doing so, it would be wise to pay respect to the fact that Higa never mentioned the downsides of the organisms’ naturally occurring functions. Mutations have been proven to take place in these organisms’ DNA that may actually harm crops and the environment. An online article on the Organic Agriculture website titled What are the environmental benefits of organic agriculture? explains all of the eco-friendly benefits of organic farming. One section of the article discusses the benefits of beneficial plants that can both attract beneficial insects and filter out irrigation systems. These plants are often also placed away from crops in order to attract animals that feed on crops and direct them away from the general location of the yielding product. Introducing new species of plants from foreign lands to protect crops also introduces opportunity for the environment to fall victim to harm by invasive species. The online article took no consideration whatsoever at the possibility of creating more damage by implementing these species into their growing regimen. Agriculture is not the first and only place to use beneficial species as a means of land protection, and it certainly is not the first time to be seeing the plan take a wrong

The article "Attention to Whole Foods Buyers" by Robert Paarlberg is an article on how organic food is not as "good" for the world as we thought. One of the biggest problems in the world today is hunger among humans around the world. In some countries, it is worse than others because there is not enough food to supply everyone who needs to be fed. While in some countries it is about who can afford the food or even who can get to where the food is because some foods are not in a place where they can go as often as they need to eat.…

Strolling through Stop and Shop, customers always seem to lay their eyes on the organic aisle for a split second, and think "What really labels this aisle as organic? Why would I ever want to be healthy?" Some, nonetheless, walk through the aisle, picking up these overpriced products that claim to allegedly be free of artificial flavors and genetically modified chemicals; products that claim to be unlike those found in the other ten aisles of the supermarket. The article "What are you Buying When You Buy Organic," by Steven Shapin depicts the corporate food industry, specifically Earthbound Farms and how the discussion of organic produce is more of a profitable matter, than what matters most, the health of an individual. Organic food is dictionary…

In “What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic?” by Steven Shapin, Shapin discusses the current trend of people who are migrating to eating organic food only but also moves to dismiss any false connotations of what it truly means to be eating organic products. Shapin brings up the popular assumption that farms that claim to produce organic products are imagined to be a small family-owned business. That was not the case, as evidenced by Shapin’s article, where he pointed out that one of the biggest organic food producers, Earthbound Farm, went from a two-and-a-half-acre farm into a combined 26 thousand acres farming space. In addition, Earthbound Farm has production plants in different parts of the country which conjures up images of a large cooperate operation. (429) To keep up with the world…

Health and Globalization As the movement people, goods and food across the globe increase so do the undesired consequences, a scenario that creates a greater risk of infectious diseases and viruses quickly spreading leading to serious public health problems. I would argue that it is not practical to stop global trade and travel to avoid these problems because the upsides, such as providing year-round fresh fruit and vegetables and medication for the most serious of illnesses to regions that would otherwise go without, outweighs these negative aspects. At the today’s speed of international travel and trade developed nations with properly allocated resource can respond to any number of conditions for a positive effect on the well-being of those in need ("Health | Globalization101", 2017).…
