Mexican Culture Healthcare The Mexican traditional medical practice was based on the belief of the Greeks, brought on by the Spaniards. It has been said that a balance of blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile are what’s needed for good health or Reinert. They also believed that if you became sick, it was because you were out of balance by having either too much heat or cold. If given penicillin, it was considered a “hot” medicine and would be given for something such as a fever. For a chest cold, upper respiratory infection, or sore throat vitamin C would be given. The Mexican culture also believed that supernatural powers were a cause of disease.
