1. What were the strengths of your lesson? What worked well?
The strengths for my lesson was that the students were actively involved in creating their own unique art piece using various handheld objects. The students were also able to involve things that are relevant in their lives or surroundings as part of their artwork. I believe providing the students primary colors worked well because the students mixed the paint and created secondary colors. The younger students that were not exposed to mixing colors were astonished and happy they were able to create a new color.

A weakness I confronted during the lesson was the instruction where the students would …show more content…
Analyze art elements and principles and their relationships to each other and within the environment, using appropriate vocabulary
The overall theme for the final activity of the lesson contained camping and the outdoors scenery. So, after practice and exposing the students with the definition and manipulatives of the elements and principles of art their final activity was to develop their personal art piece. By doing so the students were taken outdoors with their painting materials for the students to better visualize the outdoors. Before the students could start on their work we all walked around the school grounds and described what we all could see by using the new vocabulary. While walking as a class outside I took the manipulatives I used indoors to redirect the new vocabulary but also told the students to pick one item found outside that would describe one of the art elements or principles. The students were told to use their 5 senses to create a thoughtful art piece using the outdoor …show more content…
I also did this because each student would have a different view that would inspire them to paint. For example, by looking at the way a branch is attached to a tree or the various colors of flowers.
10. Demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of art materials/equipment
I first demonstrated how the art materials must be used appropriately when painting onto the canvas. This quick exercise must be done to avoid conflict of art pieces being ruined by other students or provoking water/ paint spills. Teacher modeling should be done to show the students the correct way to handle a paintbrush using fine motor skills. Another fine motor skill the student would practice would be the small brush stokes onto the canvas. Mixing the primary paints with the paint brushes to create secondary colors is another fine motor skill.
