Statement of the Problem
Arson is the willful and malicious burning of a person’s property. In most states it is a crime to burn any building, even if you own it. If you burn a building with the intention to defraud insurance, it is a separate crime (1). In the chart, it shows the rate of arson in Massachusetts versus the national rate. The data ranges from the years 2007 to 2012. In comparison, Massachusetts does not have a lot of cases of arson. The number also stays within a close range around .02, whereas the national rate has been steadily rising.

Arson is not easily stopped, as there are more than one ways to do it. The fire can be started with a person inside or outside, and some use simple things, like lighters, to start the fire. One way to stop the fires, is to have quick and easy ways for people to alert police that a fire has started. If you notice suspicious behavior, it is important to report it, otherwise they may get away. You should never assume someone else will report

He was able to start 350 fires with millions of dollars worth of damage. Only two deaths were confirmed, but there may be a total of five. If Sweatt saw an attractive male, he would follow them to their house and set fire to either their car or home. The fires happened in the metro Washington DC area. It wasn’t unlike him to throw a combustible item into the back of a police car to watch it burn. He would often use the same device over and over. He would take a plastic milk jug, fill it with gasoline, then create a wick using a torn piece of fabric. This would cause gas to fill up the jug, eventually cause it to explode. At the scene of a fire in Arlington, Virginia, a pair of Marine dress pants were found matching DNA found on the wicks and a strand of hair found at other crime scenes. When Sweatt was asked for a DNA sample after being watched for a while, he complied and he now serves a life sentence in federal prison

This is a very good reason why humans cause climate change. According to Plos ONE #11.4, 95% of California’s wildfires are caused by human actions. The interaction between humans and wildfires across all of California demonstrate the need to understand the relationship between them, mostly in the face of a changing climate and expanding human communities. People in California have built in areas of natural vegetation know as the Wildlife-Urban Interface,(WUI), much of which the area is known to be fire prone. Yesterday, March 25, 191 at 4:40 pm, a fire at the Triangle Waist Company 10 floor building in New York city broke out and killed 146 young workers who were mostly immigrants. The fire started when someone threw either a match or cigarette int0 the waste bucket. Someone smelled smoke and told the manager who then started to throw water onto the fire, but it was already too late. Everyone began to panic and run for the door, but the door was too small and could only fit one person through at a time so people began to jump out the windows. The circumstances as to how the fire raged out of control is understandable, but the lingering question, why not extinguish the fire before it spread. During the seventeenth centuries, London had no organized fire protection system. Indeed, basic firefighting methods of the day consisted largely of sheer manpower, the only tools for fighting the fire were buckets, hooks and hand held pumps as well as ladders. If fact, the method was not to extinguish but to contain and allow the fire to burn itself out, by demolishing nearby structures therefore creating fire breaks to slow the fire spread. In addition, Gunpowder could be used to blow up buildings and create fire…

The fire itself was started, as so it is said, by a match being accidentally dropped on a pile of cloth in the work area, which is proof of the unsafe working conditions. The fire had occurred in the late afternoon on Saturday, March 25, 1911, when one of the employees noticed the fire and brought it to the attention of the rest of people on the eighth floor, where it had started. The workers tried to put out the fire with buckets of water, but it quickly began to spread to the bins of scrapped cloth that had not been replaced in weeks and only fed the scorching flames. Others tried to pull the emergency fire hose that was in the building, but there was no water connected to the pipe that connected to the hose, meaning that the building was…

In the early 1900’s, were there legitimate ways to prevent fires like we do today? Albert Marrin’s non-fiction story, “Flesh And Blood So Cheap” uses both explicit and implicit evidence and examples in his excerpt to convey his theme that The Triangle Fire that took place in 1911 was caused by many unsafe practices and standards, which led to 146 deaths in the large fire. Fortunately, this fire prompted people to want to work for reforms to improve safety standards which we still use to this day. The first kind of evidence Albert Marrin uses in his story to convey his theme is implicit evidence.…

Although this system seems unmanageable back in 1871 it was considered very efficient, helpful, and fast. Although on the night the Great Chicago Fire broke out the fireman on watch dismissed the smoke as just smoldering embers from the previous night fire. Because fires were so common during that time the citizens of Chicago also dismissed the glowing fire and alarms as nothing important. “For days past alam has followed alarm, but the comparatively trifling losses have familiarized us to the pealing of the Courthouse bell, and we [have] forgotten that absence of rain for weeks [has] left everything in so dry and inflammable conditions…
