Army Chain Of Command

ARMY has been always my biggest dream. Growing up with my dad in the military, I’ve always admired the armed forces, especially the ARMY. I have seen in movies how soldiers execute orders; but I’ve always wondered about how those orders or plans came to be. As I progressed through high school, I had a little understanding of the leaders in the military. Being in the SROTC program, I’ve learned more about the planning and strategic operation of the ARMY and the chain of command. In this chain of command, there is always a General who is highly decorated and deserving of his/her rank. This meant that there were no vacancies in the Regular Army to be able to be given commissions as regular second lieutenants. This higher title does not mean he/she is paid at that rank. It is only for a specific assignment that officer is given. The only condition that an officer is paid in that title, is when the President assigns an officer a duty at that brevet rank and authorizes that that person be paid at that rank. The way that an officer is awarded this rank is when they display gallantry or meritorious conduct. After graduating from West Point, General Schofield served for 2 years as an artillery officer. Schofield contracted malaria and received orders to go back to West Point in 1855. He taught philosophy at the Academy up until 1860. He took a leave of absence from the army and taught physics at Washington University in St. Louis during his leave. Some of these controversy were with peers and some of them with the public. He was also involved in a cover up in West Point in 1881 when Schofield was superintendent. The Schofield Barracks in Hawaii was named after him after his death. The farthest he got in his career with regards to rank was lieutenant general. He is still remembered for a quotation that all cadets at West Point, Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, and the United States Air Force Academy are supposed to memorize. This quotation was from his graduation address to the class of 1879 at West Point. Basically, this quotation was that harsh treatment of soldiers would only cause resentment, but giving commands with such a manner and tone of voice that would inspire soldiers, it would inspire in them the desire to
