I take no issue with the concept of de over bloodshed. Although do take some argument with it being affixed to the junzi. Aristotle does something similar with the aristocracy of the Greek polis so I also refute his concept of lead by nobility example. The issue that I have with the junzi or aristocracy leading by example is that it pervades a form of elitism. An unqualified elitism I might add because it has been my experience often where the layman has demonstrated more dedication to ru and de then the noble. Now I do not challenge all nobility of being void in virtue but only take umbrage to the blanket leadership of the nobility simply just because the virtue is assumed (Chau, 2011, pp. 41-44). I am of a mind that the peasant could possibly teach something to the nobility on matters of virtue. Specifically, in the strain of humility but to be fair it is in my mind that inherited life that afforded the peasant such a perspective. So I would urge not a lead of junzi example although would promote a form of ru that is a shared learning experience between the different
