The United States Postal Service, or USPS, has been an essential service for the nation for centuries. It had dutifully carried postage from one border to the other. However, the service’s evolution has failed to coincide with the nation’s. The service remains true to its roots, but is failing to maintain or increase revenue. While cutting costs is both cheap and maintains the traditional postal office, the USPS risks becoming a relic if it does not modify itself to cater to a modern consumer based culture. The USPS needs to join the rest of society technologically to appeal to customers. The USPS is currently like a grandfather, he’s set in his ways and has been successful in the past, but has troubling keeping up with the youngsters.

People are using the services of companies like Green Dime, a company that helps reduce the inflow of “junkmail” and advocate for a greener environment for its customers. (Source E). These companies are merciless. “Junkmail” is one of the sources of potential income for postal workers so taking that away would greatly retract from their salary. This is one of the many ways the postal system is being undermined by other companies. This is why, as aforementioned, the USPS should be treated like a business to gain more power. Moreover, the USPS should obtain control of internet access it would make the USPS have more purpose than ever before. He’s willing to support the USPS as much as possible and while the thought it appreciated, the overwhelming number of people who are not willing to be like Cullen is too great. The lost of revenue is too great, the USPS lost $3.8 billion in 2010. (Source C). This is why the USPS must prioritize increasing profit. While cutting back will help to a certain extent, it will not increase profits, it will merely help stay out of the red.
