On April 20, 1999 two students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold entered Columbine High School in which they attended and set off explosives and opened fire on students and teachers inside. 49 minutes they were able to open fire on innocent people inside the school until finally committing suicide. A Jefferson County police officer assigned to the school was the first on the scene just minutes after the shooting began, but was unable to stop the two boys from continuing their lethal assault. Teachers were doing all they could by evacuating students from the cafeteria, locking doors, and encouraging students to hide in order to protect themselves.
