In my opinion, I don’t think Canada should break up. Canada is composed of many regions such as the North, Central Canada, Atlantic Canada and the West. Each region brings challenges for Canada, but I think those challenges can be resolved as a whole. In the North, there are many challenges posed by being part of the confederation. Firstly, it has a high poverty rate. There are many Inuit children who go hungry and homeless. They experience food insecurity and lives in poor conditions. Job opportunities are lacking, many people are unemployed and food is expensive due to high transportation costs. Secondly, global warming is speeding up. This region consists of four provinces: Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. These provinces were considered as a have not province because of economic troubles. Atlantic Canada has suffered low wages, high unemployment rates and the lowest income in Canada. An example that impacts the economy the most is the collapse of the fisheries. This has brought the region into crisis. Most people who worked as fisherman have to be transferred to other jobs or lose their job. This decreases job opportunities in the Atlantic region. Many Atlantic Canadians move to the west to Ontario or Alberta to look for work. Recently, the Atlantic region changed. There has been an oil discovery near the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. It resulted in a small economic boom and it boosted up job opportunities. From now on, the Atlantic region became one of the “haves.” I think that Atlantic Canada shouldn’t leave the Confederation because it may still need help and improvement but it can also benefit other provinces. Since the oil was recently discovered they can use that as an economic advantage by making businesses. It may bring a better relationship to other provinces as the oil discovery majority contribute to the economy in Canada. As it is one of the resources needed in Canada. Also, it brings workers back to their home as the work in the Atlantic Canada is upgraded. Therefore, Atlantic Canada became a “have”
