Prejudice Against SeaWorld Do you know what a vaquita is? If you don’t, I’ll explain it later. As the next generation, we should not condemn SeaWorld for the caretaking of captive orcas. This organization never broke the law in obtaining what few wild orcas they own. Most of the orcas in SeaWorld have been born using their groundbreaking breeding program and have never experienced the ocean, pollution, or hunger. The orcas in captivity receive the best medical attention in the world and help protect their wild counterparts through aiding research. The best option for now is to let the orcas remain where they are in captivity. All in all, SeaWorld’s orcas are thriving to say the least, and we shouldn’t be condemning a brilliant organization.

As of current, they are not permitted to move whales in a deal made with the state of California. In a National Geographic article it was stated that California would only approve the building of bigger tanks for the orcas if SeaWorld stopped moving whales and shut down their breeding program, among other demands (Hugo). According to SeaWorld Cares, a website that debunks SeaWorld myths, the film “Blackfish” misleads viewers into believing that SeaWorld frequently relocates and separates families of orcas (SeaWorld Cares). Their team’s research has led to numerous discoveries and helped so many orcas in the wild. By having the orcas in captivity, the researches have access to information that they would normally not be able to attain (McBain and Andrews).
