A single-track calendar has students and faculty on the same schedule each year where they are all in school or on vacation at the same time. Single track is often used families are on break at the same time and it is easy to schedule around. A multi-track schedule is different, however. Some students and faculty are on different schedules than others. Parents’ opinions were taken into account about their children’s summer jobs, their attitudes about school in general, and their feelings as a whole. It raised red flags for many parents, but in the end, these parents chose to view year-round school like this: “Three months in the life of a ten-year-old makes up .025 percent of their life. For a thirty-year-old, .025 of their life is nine months. Could you just take off work for nine months, never use your work skill in that time, and expect to work as well as you did beforehand?” (“Top 10 Reasons Why Year Round School Is A Good Idea”). Parents are aware that summer jobs and sports are important in students’ lives, but education is far more crucial to their child’s future. Year-round school also helps reduce the overcrowding number of students in a classroom at one time. If a school is on a multi-track schedule where students and staff members are on vacation at different times than other students, then the number of students inside the classroom has reduced. This is beneficial for students as they will now have more one-on-one time with their educator, allowing them to ask questions and understand the material they are being taught.
