“The Crucible” had a very religious setting, People in Salem could crazy things when it came to any problem with their belief. In the book, the crucible could be referred as a difficult task given to the girls in the forest by God. In the beginning of Act 1, Mr. Parris said, “I cannot blink what I saw, Abigail-for my enemies will not blink it. He betrayed his wife and his belief, to not let Abigail tell his secret to the village, he chose to help Abigail make a lie. However, when his wife was accused for witchcraft, and when he saw so many people died because of the lie. He was moved; he chose to tell the truth, and not pointing out the next “victim”. “I speak my own sins; I cannot judge another. (Crying out, with hatred:) I have no tongue for it.” His crying tongue showed it was so hard for him to make the decision against his fear of death and inferred him as a brave man.
