When the School Safety Administration asked about the effectiveness of metal detectors, thirty-two percent said that they were “either somewhat or very effective at reducing violent crime” (Hankin 110). While the metal detectors are not the panacea of answers when faced with this conundrum, it can be a portion of the solution. A TSA approved metal detector can be purchased for as little as $1795.00, the cost to retrofit a device on every point of entry could financially cripple the state budget (Walk).
