In the past men were doing all the labor and taking care of all the finances of their family. Long-ago most women did not have the need to work, women were relaying on their men to bring the dollar to the house. In the United States, women were always the dependent person, until the World War two when most men had to go to war and fight for their country. Then women had to take a place in the industry, the US Army and the air force (History). Women’s position in the workplace had increased more than half during the World War two and kept on increasing even more after the war. American working women had earned their right to work and be independents; therefore, they need to have their rights in the workplace as much as men with considering the gender differences. Women’s most important right in the workstation is maternity leave; nonetheless, is maternity leave necessary? Yes, maternity leave may have some negative impact on the corporation or the business; however, working women deserve to have a maternity leave with an appropriate time period to have a healthy body and healthy child. Mothers will become more proactive in the workstation after a paid maternity leave and feel valued during their leave. Second of all, mothers getting paid are less likely to seek public assistance like disability checks or child support. According to a 2012 report from the US Department of Labor on family and medical leave, “about fifteen percent of people who were not paid or who received partial pay while on leave turned to public assistance for help.” (Gillett) Moreover, most mothers will able to support their family, afford their health needs and stay above the poverty line by paying for their maternity
