Bernie Sanders is one of the more supportive politicians for legalization. He speaks about arrests due to marijuana, and how many more ethnic people get arrested, when use among races is relatively equal. He also realizes how it can affect a young adult's life, if caught with the substance. Seeing as how they already legalized the drug, we can see how it has worked out for their state. The most stunning statistic is that the marijuana industry rakes in over a billion dollars a year. The industry offers new jobs and businesses, and last year brought in $135 million to state coffers, according to the Boston Globe. The industry is tightly regulated. Each plant is tagged and tracked, using radio frequency chips. The herb and other products, such as marijuana infused edibles, are tested for potency and safety. The testing process ensures the customer that they know what they are getting. And as far as health goes, no problems have been raised, other than the slight uptick in people becoming ill from ingesting too much marijuana, usually from edibles.
