countries, things can be worse when it comes to girl power. According to UNICEF (2016), of 1.3 billion people living in poverty around the world, 70% are women. Similar shocking data abound. Women in today’s world are still living in an inferior condition. This cruel but real fact results from many factors, such as poverty, disease, religion and policy, not just limited to “doing gender” I suppose.

Actually, when people talking about gender inequality, they will think this is a female issue and it has nothing to do with males. However, from my perspective, gender inequality is the issue for everyone, and men should get involved not because doing this is politically or ethically right, but it has true benefits to men. Feminism not only involves political and sociological theories concerned with gender difference and inequality, but also advocates for women's freedom and rights through campaigns. Usually, the history of the feminist movement can be divided into three "Waves". The First Wave refers to women's suffrage movements from 1700s to the 1960s, which argued that women were also rational and it mainly concerned with women's right to vote. The Second Wave is connected with the women's liberation movement from 1960s to the 1980s, which was more critical of existing institutions and questioned the women’s role in private area. The Third Wave represents a continuation and rethink of the Second Wave, beginning in the 1990s. It emphasizes how individual women understand their own claims and …show more content…
Moreover, I have comments and reflections on how this process works and also shares my thoughts towards these three topics. Feminism is still a debatable and controversial topic in today’s world. Women continue to make important strides towards equality, and continue to face drawback and resistance as they do so. Before taking this course, I have one-sided views that feminism is only about women and think feminism are against with males. However, now I have more comprehensive understanding of feminism, and I realize that feminism is about the entire human. Women and men and transgender are all the victims of gender-based society, which makes us shoulder the burdens that we are not supposed to take. After learning sex and gender, I become more open-minded and inclusive than before and I think this is the most meaningful things for me to take this
