Argument Essay
America’s Childhood July 4th, 1776 was the day that America declared its independence from Great Britain. American colonies did not like the way they were being treated; therefore, colonists looked to gain their independence and live by their own standards. There were numerous factors leading to the revolution, eventually this caused them to go to war and take their freedom.
The Sugar Act was created by Great Britain in 1764 to continue taxing the colonies on goods. With this act they strengthened their navy stationed in America to ensure that the taxes were paid. This was due to colonists trying to find ways around paying the taxes. The colonists have the right to be …show more content…
The tea was still being taxed because it was the only tax that was not repealed; however, the colonists were still boycotting it like the rest of the taxes. These boycotts lead to the English East India Company to have tons of unsold tea, and a very large amount of debt. The Tea Act was an attempt at making a monopoly out of the company by selling it at a cheaper price than they offered before. At first you might think the American colonists would be happy to hear of this cheaper tea, however, it was quite the opposite feeling. This act just brought all the hate and resentment of Great Britain back to life. Town meetings were held and it was in agreement that anyone taking part in the buying or selling of the tea was not on the side …show more content…
The acts closed off the Boston port to only allow fire wood and food until the tea was all paid for. Also, took the power to elect Massachusetts’ officials, and power to have trials in Great Britain. There was also an act made to build on the Quartering Act saying that the colonies government would have to take care of the cost to house and feed the British soldiers sent there to punish the colonists. These acts were just more fuel to the fire of the coming American Revolution. Colonists were all upset and felt they were having their rights promised by constitution taken away. This was when the Continental Congress was created. This was a group of American colonist representatives who got together to fight the Intolerable Acts the Great Britain parliament and the king created. Their first action was to send a petition King George in attempt to get the Intolerable Acts repealed. I read the petition and immediately noticed a strategy being used. It seemed as if they were trying to win him over with flattery and being apologetic. They constantly refer to him as “your majesty” or “royal indignation”, and in this quote they are obviously trying to stress the fact that they are still very loyal to their mother country of Great Britain “Your royal authority over us and our connection with Great Britain we shall always
