To be against genetically modified organisms, is being against the advancement of technology. Over the course of all history many ideas have been shut down before they’ve even seen the light of day, and unfortunately that could be the case for gmo’s. 88% of U.S. scientists say genetically modified foods are safe to eat, and only 37% of Americans agree. Rationally, GMO crops aren't inherently different from other breeding techniques that people already trust—so even though we can't know with 100% certainty that the plants won't have negative effects, there's also no reason to think that they will (Peters). People tend to give them a bad rap simply because they don’t further research them. Throughout this essay I’m looking to prove that gmo’s are advantageous …show more content…
A question that’s often asked is; what is a gmo, and how are they made? Scientist often take a gene that controls a desired trait in one plant-- less need for water, so it can survive a drought, for example-- and add it into a different plant. The end result: hardier crops, more colorful berries, even seedless watermelons and grapes (Paturel). One of gmos biggest benefits is certainly their health. Did you know that Vitamin A deficiency has killed 8 million kids in the last 12 years? Well, golden rice is being looked at as a solution to malnutrition. Many countries around the world have rice in their main diet. Being the primary food,

For hundreds of years, farmers have been observing their crops through generations and utilizing the benefits of selective breeding to achieve desired results. Historically, this was done by simply choosing which organisms are allowed to reproduce, but recent developments in food science have produced Genetically Modified Organisms. Some find the process of physically rearranging genes to be frightening and unacceptable, while others fully embrace GMOs as the natural next step in future technology. The GMO debate is widely participated in, from laboratories to universities to government to the average home. During a classroom debate in Biology, I was assigned to the pro-GMO team.…

Finally, people worry that the genes from GMOs will spread into other crops destroying biodiversity. Only two studies out of the thousands have shown that with minimal evidence and flaws in their procedure due to improper barriers and suspicion the data was changed. The two studies were discredited and eventually dismissed by the scientific community however people still like to point to them when it fits their…

What do you think about genetically modified or know as (GM) stuff. Genetically modification is where one gene is transferred from one thing to another and has a different outcome. Genetically modification things are better looking and they are also safe, but they also cause environmental issues. Most of the GM foods are created in the United States. Evolution is the theory of development from earlier forms. Genetically modified organisms, also known as GMOs, can originate back to ancient nations when they began manipulating different organisms to appease their needs. Today more than 75% of the world’s food is attributed by GMOs, yet only 37% of Americans agree that they are safe to eat. The biggest misconception between scientists and the public is actually over GMOs: 88% of U.S. scientists say genetically modified foods are safe to eat. Since the public is reluctant to dive into details, they are easily swayed by weak arguments about the ethicality of GMOs.…

Ali3 Many people have a huge misconception about GMOs especially GM foods that they are harmful to both the human body and the environment, but various studies have proven quite the opposite. GMOs can bring a plethora of benefits to almost every industry ranging from medical use to agricultural but is held back by a majority that believes in false accusations and unsupported studies. GMOs have the backing of almost every scientist and person who knows even a little about the subject of biotechnology yet still there is a huge opposition of mainly people who have fallen to Anti-GMO propaganda. In May 2016 the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine issued a report about GMOs saying they “found no substantiated evidence that foods from GE crops were less safe than foods from non-GE crops.”…

GM crops could stimulate growth and nutrition in developing countries, and there are also no completely proven risks to safety. With more research and labeling of GMOs, the country could become more accepting of this new development in agriculture. This would be a benefit for everyone. GM crops are both easier to grow and more efficient.…

Genetically modified organisms also known as GMOs have been an area of hot debate over the last few years. In this article we will explore the arguments for and against GMOs and at the end dispel the fear-mongering and show that humanity has been modified organisms since the beginning of recorded human history; we are just much better and faster at it now than in the past 1,000s years. The goal in GMOs is to modify organisms (generally food stock such as livestock and extensive agriculture, plants), at the genetic level, to obtain better quality offspring. Companies such as Monsanto and other agriculture, industrial giants aim to create plants that taste better, have better nutrition qualities, are resistant to drought, pest, and other environmental…

GMOs have the potential to do multiple things. For those of you that may not know GMOS (or Genetically modified organisms) are organisms that have been created through gene splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or GE). They are a safe way to slow down pollution and use less land in crop production. GMOs also provide many health benefits, and could also be a leading cause in ending world hunger. Currently many people are opposing GMOs because GMOs are a relatively young concept, and they believe GMOs only benefit the consumer.…
