Eggleton (2013) in the article stated that the “summer Arctic sea ice is now retreating at a rate of 8,000 meters a year, not the slow 50 meters a year that the ice sheets retreated as the northern hemisphere emerged from the last ice-age.” The general public is affected by this because some of the people who live near mountains solely rely on glacial melt for their water source. As the glacier melts, it has been used to water fields of crops during dry periods as well. Eggleton (2013) indicates how global warming is not something that could be resolved in this life span, but the people might live long enough to see the consequences. He stated that “Yet over the last 100 years the mean global temperature has risen by only about one degrees Celcius.” Even though this may not seem as a large change in the amount of time, it is enough to shape countries and effect populations. Although monumental storms, like hurricanes, would still happen whether or not we had a global warming issue, it is because of global warming that these types of storms are so strong.
Global warming has come a long way since the first known outbreak in 1896 by Svante Arrhenius. Whether global warming is happening at a specific moment or it’s taking a hiatus, also known as a pause, it will be around forever. Every part of the world may not experience the same conditions of global
