“In 1937, she mysteriously disappeared while trying to circumnavigate the globe from the equator” (“Amelia Earhart Biography”). In addition to her distance and altitude world records as a pilot, “...she also wanted to make a statement about the role and worth of women” (“Amelia Earhart Biography”). Amelia devoted much of her life to prove that, like men, women could excel in their careers, and that they could have equal value. Aside from all of this, she had many odd jobs. Amelia volunteered as a nurse’s aid, and had early jobs as a telephone operator and tutor. Amelia was also a social worker at Denison House in Boston when she was asked to fly across the Atlantic for the first time, as a passenger. Earhart spent time making speeches, writing articles, and providing career counseling at Purdue University's Department of Aeronautics. ("15 Fun Facts About Amelia
