April Midnight By Arthur Symon

The poem that I choose was April Midnight by Arthur Symons. At 16, he moved to London and joined a group of authors know as the Rhymers’ Club and join many other famous authors. Symon’s formal poetry explores romantic love, loss, and the passage of time. April Midnight was published in his collection called Silhouettes in 1892. I chose this poem because it is so different from what we hear about nowadays. April Midnight has more of a carefree theme is tries to portray and now of days, people are so concerned about things like work and don’t take the time to just spend time with people they really care about. The poem reaches out to people who are in love or in a relationship. The poem goes through the different stages of a relationship. In

The quote “Character is what you are in the dark” by Dwight Lyman Moody can be interpreted as you are yourself when no one is watching or dark and troubled times can bring out the real you. I support this quote and interpretation because, people often hide themselves from others in fear that they will either be judged or misunderstood. This quote also infers when someone is going through a rough time period in their life and you see them at a point in their life which people now call “someone at their worst”. The worst is the dark part of it and they are stuck in the middle. Also, the quote can infer that someone is more smart at night time.…

Poetry Response 2 The theme is power. Even before the first line of "The Colonel" by Caroline Forché, you know you're dealing with not just a colonel, but the colonel, a man of power. Alongside the speaker, you enter the lair of a military ruler who has position, money, and rank, and who is not afraid to use them. After enjoying the dinner, the maid was called using a gold bell which is indicative of the royal style of living that the colonel lived.…

Doerr shows us the problems with stuffing these emotions and not facing them. Two main character’s stuff their emotions one by personal choice, and the other by external pressures. The significance of hardship experienced by both characters should be a warning to all to be open about things that are kept bottled inside to avoid hardships created by them.…

Algernon demonstrates the theme, showing how his change affected others in the story.…

“Summer Storm” was a poem that stood out to me as it almost read like a diary page. The author says, “To my surprise, you took my arm- a gesture you didn’t explain- and we spoke in whispers as if we two Might imitate the rain” (Gioia 707). The rhymes in this poem are only used in every other sentence. This makes the poem feel more authentic and real.…

In the Novel Under A Cruel Star, Heda Margolius Kovaly sheds light on the repercussions of not only the German concentration camps in World War 2, but also shows how the War led to the adoption, practice, and repercussions of a hostile communist government. In this novel courage, not only in a power to survive, but in a power to provide for family, is the most prevalent issue brought about in Hedas retelling of her time in the concentration camps and her time as wife to a communist official. One of the most endearing facts about Heda in her retelling of her experiences is that fact how despite everything that she had observed, participated in, and been subjected to she still remained “human” in that she was not misguided by hate and anger but…
