What can I possibly say about the woman who helped me find my voice? I suppose thank you, but it’s so much more than that. Diagnosed in the mid-nineties, there was only a single website about Apraxia. Yet, despite the limited information, my mother persisted. She persisted in the IEP meetings, the tests, the speech therapies in order to grab any resource that would help me find my voice. She persisted in the arguments for resources and making sure every academic decision would only lead me to being the best I can be. She persisted in the awkward family moments when a fellow family member would insist there is nothing wrong with me, that I’d speak when I had something to say.
