A brilliant man by the name of Ernest Hemingway, once said "Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another. " What comes to mind after reading this statement? Simple, we all end out on the same path eventually in life yet to be noted as the most remarkable person based upon their natural raw passion for life and how they live; is what makes individual. Someone to stand out amongst the many solely based upon their life's actions leading up to one moment is what allows for this opportunity.…
Nursing is a career that is both rewarding and challenging. My passion to study nursing first began when I started working as a Home Care Assistant after studying Health and Social Care at College. My second job was working alongside nurses in Hospital, as an Agency Healthcare Assistant. This experience has influenced my career decision greatly; this is as it has allowed me to develop a strong insight to the challenges and constraints that come with the satisfying and rewarding role of a nurse. Being an Agency Healthcare Assistant I have experience working in hospitals such as Bradford Royal Infirmary and ST Luke's hospital in Bradford.…
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way” these are the words of Viktor Frankl that have fueled me within the last few years. After traumatically losing my leg in an accident I did not lose my positive attitude toward life or my desire to help others, I choose my own way to continue the path I was following before this tragedy struck. From the age of 18 as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to age 25 working as a Mental Health Associate (MHA) at a hospital, I chose to lead a life of service. My drive to assist others as a CNA would be the catalyst for me discovering that I wanted to be a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. It was through my work that I discovered the common ground of suffering, but also the resilience of the human spirit.…

When I was a young girl, pencils and paintbrushes were practically extensions of my fingers. I may not have been able to recite the alphabet or count to 26, but with a box of magic markers, I had 1,000 words at my fingertips. My first few years of school consisted of many parent-teacher meetings that revolved around the fact that it seemed impossible to keep me from scribbling sloppy stars and smiley faces on every assignment. That is until one day, I finally found a subject that I was truly interested in, and could also benefit from my hobbies and talents: science. I came to love science because it is fascinating, constantly changing, and most aspects of the subject allowed me to expand my mind further than my imagination.…
A career as a physician’s assistant is one of just a few careers that allow you to treat injuries or diagnose illnesses and even assist in surgeries alongside a certified doctor, all without an going through an insane amount of medical school, internships, tests and programs as a normal doctor would. Since physician’s assistants (or PA’s) work under the watchful eye of licensed intelligent physicians, they are required to have the same training but not nearly in as much length or detail. Physician assistant work may be demanding both physically and emotionally, therefore, stability is necessary. Varying in facilities, physician’s assistants are required to work full time, crazy hours or sometimes-on call. This job requires rigorous training as most all tasks on the job require you to follow a strict protocol as not to put patients…
I had gotten my feet wet by taking several health classes, and volunteering with the school athletic trainer during my high school years. I also plunged into it by working as a certified nurse’s assistant at a nursing home, and as a home health care aid, and direct support staff doing respite work. I absolutely loved this work, being able to commutate one on one and help people is what I love to do. It also gave me a general idea of which area of occupational therapy I would enjoy working in. After my field work and working at a nursing home and with mentally disabled adults, my goals after OT graduate school is to work in productive aging, mental health, or a rehabilitation unit.…
