Introduction
Apparel industry, which is surviving for years, is considered to be one of the most diversified industries. It has undergone various transformations over the decades and adapted itself to the global changes. The survival of any industry depends upon their customers where apparel industry has always satisfied its customer’s requirements and has adopted to change whenever it is required. When considering the country like India, the industry gets even more diversified based on the diversification of the particular geographical area. Therefore, India is considered to be the most diversified country and its consumer interest towards any product varies from region to region within the country (Venkatesh et al, 2016).

Therefore, these stages are examined while a customer is buying a product. Consumer buying behaviour varies according to the industry and product. When considering the apparel industry, it moves towards more upon choices and preferences of a customer in selecting the product they like. As most of the customers buy any apparel based on their wants rather than needs. Therefore, consumer purchase is determined as a want based purchase rather than need based purchase.
In this study, we will be discussing about the Indian apparel industry in detail as well as the consumer approach towards buying apparel. Therefore, various concepts related to consumer buying behaviour will be studied here in reference to apparel industry. To make the study more precise, it is carried out in districts of Punjab.

The apparel and clothing industry consist of around 1500 tariff lines of Harmonized System (HS). Indian apparel industry consists of both domestic and export market. As per a recent survey, the value of domestic apparel market is US$ 15 billion contributing 45% towards the overall apparel business of the country. Indian apparel industry has helped for the establishment and growth of various MSMEs under it and this leads to the employment of more number of people.
