“Human exploration of the solar system can be said to have begun with the Apollo missions”, says Wendell Mendell with NASA. Space exploration was nonexistent before the Apollo missions. President Kennedy inspired and promoted the goal of putting a man on the moon and returning him to earth. No one had ever been on any other place than earth before reaching the moon. With the success of reaching the moon a whole new mind set was created. Another goal for these missions were to “develop or modify medical requirements for new vehicles and habitats, create a centralized database for future access, and share relevant Apollo information with various working groups participating in the exploration effort” explained a few scientists at NASA.
