1) At the second track meet of the season the sprint track coach decides to mix things up to see how a few runners would do in different events. He put a girl in the 3,000-meter run instead of her normal sprint 100. I definitely think that she would have a moment of terror, especially right before the race when she is waiting for the race to begin. The action of running has not changed, however the distance she would be running increased dramatically. I would imagine the runners view on the task would be very negative. She would probably would have some negative self talk, like "I am not capable of doing this". The stress response physiologically would be to get anxious with the gidders and dreaded anticipation as she falls into the pit in her stomach. The psychological reaction could be a lot of different things, like anger at the coach, or extreme worry about the race. She could probably even be so nervous or upset about the change in races that her performance could be extremely poor. They are playing their game and everything count. Both teams put their best foot forward which results in the scores being all tied up. As it turns out it is their team's turn to serve, this would be a big deal however this particular girl Sally really struggles with serving. Her heart picks up and she can feel the nerves really set in. As she took her place she stopped and thought about the outcome , but then switched to the process of simply hitting the ball. Then she considered how many times she had practiced this floating serve and how the team was depending on her to perform at her best. So she took a deep breath and hit the ball perfectly.
