There are two words that I can confidently use at any given time to describe myself. These two words are patient and optimistic. No matter how stressful or frustrating the situation you’re in, I think it’s so important to be able to remain patient and optimistic. These are traits that can get you far in life, and also shape you as a person. Being able to remain patient and optimistic in so many situations have helped shape me as a person, and these characteristics are now a part of my identity.
Growing up playing sports and being very involved in many different sports teams is where the root of my patience and optimism was planted. It’s definitely not easy when you play on several different sports teams and your teams are constantly losing to “better” teams. It takes a great amount of patience to choose to be optimistic rather than negative, and it takes optimism to teach you to be patient. Sports teams were a great influence in my life and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to play on so many different teams because the opportunities taught me to be patient and optimistic, not just in sports, but in life as a whole. Being the individual who is able to spread the positive energy rather than negative gave me a new perspective. I started to see the greater good, not just in a given situation, but also with people. I learned that not everything in life is handed or comes the way you want or expect, and being patient can also lead to a much more pleasant and optimistic future.
