There may have been errors in the lab that may have affected the results of the lab. There may have been mistakes: a person may have not measured the substances correctly while retrieving the liquids in the graduated cylinder, or not have been watching the conductivity probe while the group was measuring the electrolyte solution. Along with these, there is also the issue of timing the testing incorrectly. Adding onto this, there may have been a slight spill where the accurate amount of the substance being used was not completely added into the water for testing. Furthermore, there may have been an error with the probe itself – being that it itself was measuring the conductivity inaccurately. Another mistake involving the conductivity probe

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this experiment was to demonstrate the stereochemistry of the electrophilic addition using (E)-Stilbene, a trans-isomer of ethylene. Bromine was added and reacted with (E)-Stilbene to form an alkene. A product was made with both a meso-stilbene dibromide and a d/l-stilbene dibromide, which is trans-stilbene dibromide. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION For the reaction to form these two different compounds with the same starting reactants, the double bond of (E)-Stilbene has to attack one bromide.…

During our experiment, we had a hard time measuring the conductivities of the solutions in the beaker, because the Vernier LabQuest readings didn’t’t always give us an exact number. The readings of few tests kept running, so we ended up estimate a number for the conductivity. But these errors didn’t’t really affect our experiment that much. A future experiment could test the pH level in the…

Conclusion The Synthesis of Copper Compound lab was to take a regular copper wire and turn it into a metallic copper which is a pure substance. When copper reacts with nitric acid several physically properties can be seen happening for example: the colour changing and gas vapor starting to form. Many of the other reactions were similar to this that I and my partner saw such as: the formation of copper (II) hydroxide, decomposing the compound (CuO (OH) 2) by heating it, adding a different acid compound (H2SO4), and mixing solid zinc. There were several unknown variables because in the lab manual book it stated that to add this much of x substance if the compound does not change colour or state.…

Day 2 of the experiment utilized Figure 5 to determine the metal cations present in an unknown solution #112. Each metal cation was confirmed or denied with ease, with the 2 cations present within Unknown #112 were correctly identified. Thus, Figure 5 was an accurate schematic to implement in this experiment.…

The simple reaction between two substances (Mg and HCL) was performed to determine how different factors such as, temperature, and concentration effects the rate of reaction. There were noticeable differences while determining the effects of concentration of HCL on the rate of reaction. Increasing in the concentration of the HCL, bottom of the test tube became hotter; it’s an exothermic reaction because energy is being released during the reaction in the form of heat. Another, increasing in concentration of HCL reacting with Mg, formation of hydrogen gas bubbles comes out faster and quicker the Mg gets invisible. Further, we record the time taken by each concentration to dissolve the Mg to plot the graph “concentration of HCl with respective…

Introduction: Organic Molecules are the chemicals of life produced by living organisms. They contain carbon and hydrogen linked together in long chains, with carbon as the backbone. Three focal organic molecules are carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. All living organisms need these organic molecules to survive. Carbohydrates are utilized for transporting and storing energy in animals and plants.…

Thank you for your insight on different electrolytes. The fluctuating fluid levels in the body do cause electrolyte balances to be constantly shifting. It is sad that there is no known reason for heat cramps, but at least there is ways to subside the pain and consumption of electrolytes the problem can be fixed. It is nice that there are readily available foods and drinks that can help stabilize any electrolyte imbalances, such as those you listed in your discussion, that we can use to correct the imbalances that are caused through everyday activities such as sweating, illness, and using the restroom. I like how you included a list of major roles that electrolytes play in every person’s body.…

The goal of this laboratory project was to identify the unknown compound and thoroughly investigate it to find its physical and chemical properties which reveal the way it might behave. This was done by performing many anion, cation, solubility, and pH tests to help us to determine the identity of our compound. The list of salts in the lab manual made it possible to narrow down the possibilities of our unknown compound. After identifying the compound, the goal was to synthesize the unknown compound. To determine the initial properties of the unknown compound, a qualitative solubility test was performed by mixing five milliliters of water with one gram of the unknown compound.…

These errors may range from human errors to equipment errors. Internal resistance within the voltmeter may cause a reduction in measured voltage values thereby giving voltage results that are too low or too high. These result influence the overall E cell value rendering results incorrect. Corrosion on the alligator clip that was used could prevent consistent contact of the electrode thereby giving fluctuating results throughout the experiment. Electrode touching the salt bridge in the beaker while a measurement was taken can also influence the measured voltage by the voltmeter.…
