Ap Biology Reflection Research Paper

It had been a year since I've taken a biology class, my last being in senior year of high school. AP Biology was a must for a biology major, but taking "the basics" in the first year of community college was a norm and only slightly prepared me for taking Cellular and Molecular Biology. It was a small set back having to take this course since getting a 3 on the AP Biology Exam didn't exempt me in the first place, but in the light of things, I've told myself that this class will be a breeze for me. I knew all the materials; getting A's on most of the labs and tests only proved my pre-existing knowledge. The instructor was coffee-driven and energetic. She kept all her students on their toes, slamming them with topic after topic of

The most widespread species to occur across all the count areas (map 1) were Common Bulbul, Orange ground thrush and JoyfulGreenbul as well Red bellied paradise flycatcher, but orange ground thrush havens highly distributed in kamwala forest reserve. Evan Johnson August 16, 2017 AP Environmental Science Period 5 Summer Assignment 1. A Panamanian town known as El Valle de Anton, used to have an abundance of a species called the golden frog. Then, when humans began migrating from region to region, the spread of a fungus called Chytrid began to take shape. As the fungus spread, the amphibian population began to dwindle. El Valle de Anton is important because it shows how a mass extinction can occur from the spread of a fungus, all because of human travel.…

Genetics Involving Pheochromocytomas Jillian Benson Baker University School of Nursing Genetics Involving Pheochromocytomas Pathophysiology Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas are rare, benign tumors that develop from chromaffin cells, which are located in the neuroectodermal tissues around the spinal column and the adrenal glands (Grouzman et al., 2015 and Santos, 2014). Pheochromocytomas are located inside of the adrenal gland, while paragangliomas are located outside of the adrenal gland. These tumors are known to secrete neurotransmitters such as epinephrine and norepinephrine, as well as catecholamines (VanMeter & Hubert, 2014, p. 423). According to a research article written by Eric Grouzmann (2015), “In chromaffin cells and pheochromocytes, norepinephrine (NE) and epinephrine (E) are stored in vesicles where they sustain a passive leakage into the cytoplasm before being recaptured in the vesicle pool” (p.2). This is important because, the enzyme responsible for transforming norepinephrine into epinephrine is only in the adrenal medulla and is…

His book links to the third and fourth big ideas in the AP Biology curriculum framework, associating closely with learning objectives 3.15, 3.16, 3.17, 4.23, and 4.24 (The College Board, 2015). I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of ways the author chose to present his ideas, and my only complaint is that it was sometimes hard to follow Moalem’s haphazard way of storytelling, which was something akin to the unpredictable swing of…

All pots were watered with appropriate Hoagland’s Solution formulation three times per week over the next 4 weeks. Pot A (phosphate limitation group) was given a phosphate reduced Hoagland’s solution, whereas Pot B (nitrogen limitation group) was watered with nitrate reduced Hoagland’s solution. Pot C (control) is the control plant as it was given standardized fertilizer regime using normal concentration nitrates and phosphates.…

The natural simulation done in class was a good representation natural selection in the wilderness. The four things that Darwin identified that must be present in order for natural selection to occur are genetic variation, overproduction of offspring, struggle for existence, and differential survival and reproduction. This activity demonstrated all these factors except genetic variation. For over production of offspring, the beans’ populations were multiplied by three after every round. This is because out of all beans, many will not survive the round, and so more beans needed to be present than the projected amount to survive.…

I expected the difficulty of the material to be harder as this was a college course, but I anticipated taking the same approach I had taken to study as previous history courses. I thought I would go to a lecture, take notes, read the textbook, and memorize the information to be reiterated on the test. However, I quickly learned that this was not going to be the typical history lecture I envisioned. On the first day of class when I heard it was a lab initially I was confused,…
