Attention Arousing and Orienting Material:
I first became aware of anxiety when I was in high school. That’s when I realized I was different than everyone else, or at least from most. I couldn’t talk in front of the class or become friends with new people because I just couldn’t talk to anyone. The idea of people watching me was terrifying. Unfortunately, I didn’t know how serious anxiety could be when I was in high school. I just assumed there was something wrong with me that I couldn’t change, but that is not true.
Credibility:
I was interested in this topic because I know if affects so many people. I found my information through the library databases.

But for some people, anxiety is not a brief feeling that goes away after a stressful event has passed. For some, it is a constant, disabling feeling, preventing them from meeting people, doing their job, or even leaving their house.
B. There doesn’t even have to be a stressful situation involved. Anxiety can turn a walk to the mailbox into a pull blown panic attack out of nowhere.
1. When the anxiety starts to interfere with a person’s life, it becomes an anxiety disorder.
2. The most common mental illness in the U.S is anxiety disorders, affecting women more than men.
3. There are four major types of anxiety disorders: Generalized anxiety disorder, Social Phobia, Panic disorder, and Specific phobia.
Transition: Now I’m going to explain who is affected by anxiety, why they are affected, and how it affects them.
II. Who is affected by anxiety, why are they affected, and how?
A. Anxiety can affect anyone; any race, gender, or age.
1. Symptoms can start as early as six years old.
2. Anxiety affects nearly 40 million adults in America every year.
3. Women tend to be more affected, more than twice as likely as men. Specifically, women are more prone to Generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and panic
