One of the first key elements that needed to be noted were the emotions and feelings of the participants before the time of their presentation. During this time two of the students didn’t seem to notice a lot of changes in feelings towards the speech rather that general anxiety. When it came to two of the scholar’s emotions such as regret and sorrow began to race through their minds. It got to the point that they were all thinking about dropping the course to prevent from speaking out loud. The students were very serious at this point and after doing follow up research it turns out that they also suffer from sever speech anxiety, which could have been a key contributor to these thoughts. And lastly, the last student who was asked how they felt …show more content…
In the beginning of all the speeches the students started off with very low speaking qualities. When talking about vocal patterns in the students there were changes in pitch and vocal patterns such as how high and how low they begin speaking. This was interesting because all of the students distributed this trait upon beginning the speeches. The three students who suffers from anxiety were distributing some obvious signs of stress. For example, one of the students began stuttering when speaking, the arms were folded by the sides where gestures couldn’t be seen, and eye contact wasn’t met with the audience. The eye contact part of the speech was notable with the rest of the severe anxiety tri but as they kept speaking the eye contact gradually began to increase. Something else significant to point out was the nervous tensions and constant movements of all the students speaking on their topics that began to die down about 3mins into their speech. At the end the students were asked how they felt about the project and how they felt now that it was over. The sever anxiety students felt a large amount of released stress and began filling a lot better as soon as they were finished. The appearance on their face were a lot less tensed, and more lively. The one kid who zoned out during the speech preparation was also a lot calmer even though before, even though they didn’t put that much effort into the speech

A Critique of My Vietnam Presentation By Emily Mitchell In this critique I will analyze my presentation on the Vietnam War Which was given on April 5th of 2018. The main purpose of my presentation was twofold, first it was to prove the work I have done over the past month in educating myself on the Vietnam War. Second it was to communicate facts and information about the Vietnam War. This project was done as one of three projects that stand in between me and graduating at the end of the year.…

I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

Once I’m able to do this, I think that skill will carry over past the class and help me in my specific career path which is one of the most important things about the class to me. Another idea that the book mentioned that I think could be good for me is using movement to minimize anxiety. “You don’t have to stand perfectly still behind the podium when you deliver a speech. Walk around as you make some of your points. Movement relieves tension and helps hold the audience’s attention.”…

This was largely due to my particular efforts in practicing the pacing of this speech multiple times over. This practice resulted in me being very confident in my timing and so I knew when I would have to make my way back to the keyboard to switch slides. I did a great job in spreading my eye contact out throughout the room which helped in getting and maintaining the audience’s attention. Overall, I am very happy with the delivery of this speech because I was able to amend my mistakes that I have made in my previous speeches even though that result in a couple of unforeseen but ‘easy-to-correct” mistakes (more on that in the next…

My only thought was, “What in the world is happening.” As I presented my project to the class, an involuntary stutter took over my voice. After concluding the presentation and sitting back down, I felt embarrassment weigh down on me.…

What was interesting about this article was that even if a physician tells a patient the truth, a patient may not interpret that information the way it was supposed to be interpreted. A person with anxiety may make it something it’s not and someone with cancer may think that just because they have cancer, they will die. People don’t always understand the physiological functioning of their body. Another thing Lipkin mentions is that some people cannot handle the full truth, because it may be even more detrimental to their health. I find this interesting because, if you don’t know you have an illness and you are never told, are your chances of recovering greater?…

My target behavior continues to be to see if lowering my caffeine intake will lower my stress levels. This week has been very similar to the weeks prior I have been able to stick to my quota of one Coke per day. My days may seem to be repeating themselves, but there is a reason for that I am in a wheelchair and can't walk that is the main barrier I must deal with on a daily basis, but it does not stop me from reaching my goals and I didn't really want that to be any excuse. I felt it necessary to tell you because my lifestyle is so different from others and that is the reason my days sort of repeat themselves, but let me get one thing straight I enjoy what my life continues to become even with the obstacles that I've faced I just felt it necessary to tell you so you could better understand the situation I'm in.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

This was reinforced by feedback I received which said “you seemed slightly nervous at first but then as confidence grew the teaching became increasingly better.” I felt this was due to a lack of preparation and could have easily been resolved by practice and repetition. Also, next time I will prepare some notes to prompt me and to ensure I do not forget to mention any important details the students may…

It is said that the number one fear in life is public speaking, while fear of death finishes second. As famous comedian Jerry Seinfeld once mentioned, this means that at a funeral, people would rather be in the coffin than give the eulogy! The fear of public speaking, one of the most common phobias across the globe, is a form of performance anxiety in which a person becomes consciously aware and apprehensive of his or her performance in front of an audience. From sweaty palms and bundles of nerves to a cracking voice and butterflies in your stomach, speaking in public can be downright terrifying.…

Introduction Through out my English classes in high school, I lacked the confidence in my writings and group projects. In my written projects, I would dread peer review due to being scared that my classmates would judge my writing. I also would view every critique they gave as insulting me instead of trying to help me better communicate my ideas in my paper. During peer review sessions, I would be so wrapped up in the idea that my peers did not like aspects of my paper, that I would ignore the positive feedback they gave me. This lack of confidence in my writings also were evident in oral presentations and projects.…

These two presentations help me figure out many problems I have on speech. In order to give a better speech, I have to make some changes. To get more familiar with the text, I should write the speech as earlier as I can. Besides, in order to avoid those unfavorable gestures, I will practice in front of the mirror, and try to use more efficient gestures to help others understand my speech better. In general, I learn a lot from the class, even though I still need to improve, at least, I am proud enough to stand in front of others.…
