Antonio Gender Quotes

In this passage, Anya contrasts the diligence and preparedness of the genders; having the boys pulling at their ties and tugging “at the tight fitting jackets,” while the girls were all comfortable with their clothes and the situation they were in. The boys throughout the communion were goofing off and barely taking any of their time there seriously; however, they were the main focus of the story. Their unruliness hooks the readers in and keeps them on edge, even the girls in the book occasionally pay attention to the antics the boys pull. Boys have a more easier admittance to schooling than girls do so education comes as a luxury that usually gets disregarded. In the quote the “tight” sensation the boys are experiencing is the fixed expectations …show more content…
However, their actions are predictable since society has already put another restraining demand; having the male gender not be able to display emotion by giving them the demeaning label “girl” if they were to neglect the expectation. The competitiveness of Antonio’s friends will soon turn to a never ending cycle of proving dominance and not being able to distinguish the difference between reality and a game. The God that is being worshipped at the communion is a male and the idea being preached is that God is all around them, meaning God is part of the society that the boys are conformed to. Having God be that society says that he is a megalomaniac and unforgiving God. In the painting done by Lazaro Hurtado Atienza, there is flames and people falling. The flames represent the entrance to hell and the people falling are the souls being condemned to hell for all eternity by the unforgiving God; however, we also see that there are buckets of water being dumped on the fire in attempt to extinguish it. The water is part of women, like the Virgin of Guadalupe, who are forgiving and believe the souls deserve another …show more content…
The word “angel” is usually implied that someone is thought of as innocent and bringer of happiness and beauty; however, in reality, angels are warriors of God. The sole purpose of angels is to fight and protect. Angels weren’t given morals like humans, the actions they do are in the name of God, meaning they are as ruthless or even more ruthless than God. The true presence of an angel cannot be viewed by the human eye; either they aren’t perceived, or their physical bodies are so intense that human eyes are burned out of their sockets. God always expresses his wrath through nature and natural disasters; however, the natural disasters could be the angels sent out to do the destruction. In the painting, the fire could be the angels since they share some similar characteristics; fire can sometimes being too bright to look at and can cause temporary blindness. In addition to fire, there are also books in the painting. Books are symbols for knowledge. Having the knowledge gained at the commune seems to be getting the girls closer to God; however, God seems to be restricting the knowledge one can have. If someone were to exceed that limit, they would have more insight on the world, but less to connect back to God. This leads to the question of God’s existence and then tainting their souls and going to hell. Antonio seems to be gaining too much knowledge without God’s consent causing

Though a rather uncreative title, Coming out of Church lacks nothing in interest visually. The painting, done by Raimundo de Madrazo y Garreta, was created some time before 1875 in Spain reveals the harsh class differences and cultural norms of the mid 1800’s while also revealing the artists own personal outlook on these phenomena. Madrazo cultivates a scene of gloomy metaphor in his use of rain, and a visual representation of his opnion on the class division through the use of gesture, costume, subject, juxtaposition and light. The end product is both a beautifully crafted piece of work, and a painting that reflects Madrazo’s critique on his belief in the dangers and ailments of class division. Location, location, location; not just important in real estate, it is also prevalent in the location of the scene in a painting.…

Wiesel consistently refers to fire, flames, and smoke throughout the poem; these terms are very interrelated. Fire, in general, signifies the consumption of an object or thing and once it has been consumed, it no longer exists in its original form. With that repetition, it deepens the meaning of what Wiesel is exerting from his poem; how the flames and fire consumed his faith, the deepest and strongest part of his soul. It creates an environment around the reader of sympathy and makes the meaning of that repetition more significant and effective. This is really effective because something that is sad and painful is more dramatic when it is said in a new environment filled with sorrow and sympathy; enables the communication of the pain that…

Born in a family of Mexican immigrants, Sandra Cisneros discovers her niche in the American literature by writing from her experience as an immigrant growing at the confluence of two cultures. Until her teenager years, Cisneros’ family moves back and forth from Chicago to Mexico, making her feel not integrated in either culture. As Robin Ganz declares, Cisneros “derived inspiration from her cultural specificity and found her voice in the dingy rooms of her house on Mango Street, on the cruel but comfortable streets of the barrio, and in the smooth and dangerous curves of borderland arroyos” (1). In her short story, “Woman Hollering Creek”, Cisneros describes the life of a Mexican woman, Cleofilas that marries a man from “el otro lado” in the…
