Anthony Robles Short Biography

Anthony Robles is a former wrestler who won the 2010-11 NCAA individual wrestling championship in the 125-pound weight class while attending Arizona State Unviersity. In 2012, he released his book Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion. During this time, he was also inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Robles’ mother gave birth to him at the age of 16. Doctors were not prepared to find that he was born with only one leg. There was simply no medical explanation for how that happened. He refused to wear a prosthetic leg as a child and accepted the challenge of living with a disability at the tender age of three years old. He worked hard to not let his missing leg dictate his physical capabilities. When Robles was in the sixth grade, he set a record for the most pushups by a student at his school. …show more content…
Robles reluctantly joined while watching one of his older cousins practice. When he was a freshman in high school, Robles had a less than satisfactory record of 5-8 and ranked last in the city of Mesa, Arizona. However, it is important to note that he was 10 pounds underweight for his weigh class. Robles continued to work on his wrestling and discovered that he had tremendous grip strength from the use of his crutches. After rigorous training, Robles found that he could use his low stature to defend against attacks from his opponent, and became skilled at several offensive moves, including one he created for himself. As a sophomore at Mesa High School, Robles ranked sixth in Arizona, and won two state wrestling championships. He managed to set an outstanding record of 96-0 during his junior and senior years.
