There is always an immense amount of pressure to conform and to not be different, making sure to stay with the current “style” along the way. In the novelette, Anthem by Ayn Rand everyone in society is exactly the same and follow a certain set of rules very strictly. While, in the song “It’s Still Rock And Roll To Me” by Billy Joel, he sings about the the pressure he is given for being different. I, as a listener, can relate to this due to the fact that there is pressure towards me, from family and friends, to join a sport or another activity, which I do not want to do as I enjoy other things. This song, from Billy Joel, is the sole definition of individuality, and I, as a listener, follow that definition, and do as is needed for me to enjoy …show more content…
“Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me” (Joel), from this set of lyrics, I can relate through the fact that I always hear everyone talking about the newer artists, such as pop stars on the top charts, but I always find that the older, more familiar artists will always be on the top charts for me.

To continue on, you can not dress certain ways in public, as it is seen as taboo. In his song, Joel is talking to another person, a person that fits inside the box of society: “What's the matter with the clothes I'm wearing? "Can't you tell that your tie's too wide?" ”(Joel), In this set of lyrics, it is easy to relate to as many people are disliked for dressing certain ways or not dressing certain ways, such as myself, always wearing a sweater no matter how cold or warm.
In today’s society, you cannot keep too much to yourself, as it will eventually harm you later on. “...Nowadays you can’t be too sentimental...” Joel, within this lyric, it is blurted out that you cannot be as tender or emotional as you could in the past, as there is much more disrespect towards people that are sentimental, such as myself. Sadness is not as accepted in public today, so ask yourself, why is it

The first line simply describes the physical appearance of Europium; metallic and silver (although it’s not actually silver, just a similar color!) “Displaying” refers to how Europium was used in old TVs as a red color, and with the colors blue and green, they would be able to display TV shows and commercials. “Fluorescing” ties into the fact that Europium glows, or fluoresces, red under a blacklight. And “oxidizing” finishes that line of the poem since Europium is known to react very quickly in air, which is why samples of the element are usually found in test tubes or a solution that won’t let it oxidize. The fourth line of the poem describes all the known uses of Europium (there aren’t many).…

In the book Anthem being like everyone else is what they want you to be. They don’t want you to be your own person and they don’t want you to make your own decisions. They want to pick everything for you, and to be honest, who could ever live like that? Being like everyone else would be boring and nobody would be unique. The first consequence of not being an individual is not being able to pick what career field you go into.…

Individuality in Anthem Society influences the way people think and behave throughout their entire lives. However, the dystopian novel Anthem by Ayn Rand presents a society that controls the behaviors, actions, and even thoughts of their citizens. Rand’s two main characters Equality 7-2521 and Liberty 5-3000 represent common archetypes found in many other literary works. These archetypes help Rand develop the theme that suppression of individuality depletes peoples’ happiness because it is an essential part of humanity.…

Imagine that you lived in a world where leaders choose who you get to be around; which position you have in life; Well, that's exactly how the dystopia world in " Anthem " by Ayn Rand was for men and women. Men are not allowed to decide on what they wanted in life or talk to anyone else who wasn't in the same class as you. Leaders would discipline or even torture someone when they did anything that involved individualism. Dystopian leader thought it was a sin to try to be higher than what you are assigned to be.…

In the book All Shook Up: How Rock ‘n’ Roll Changed America, by Glenn Altschuler, touches on the development of rock ‘n’ roll between 1945 and 1955 cautiously observing that it is a “social construction not a musical conception (Page 27).” This definition of rock ‘n’ roll gives him space to focus on arguable topics much as exploration, and, in some cases, combining of differing styles, cultures, and social values. In the book the first three chapters focus on those argued areas by looking at generation differences, race, and sexuality. In his discussion of race, he obscures the traditional view that white artists did damage to African American artists when he says that in some a way it helped lift them by giving them more radio time and publicity.…
